Gustavo Belforte

Associate Professor

Gustavo Belforte graduated in 1974 in Electronic Engineering at Politecnico di Torino, Italy. In February 1975 he joined Politecnico di Torino where he covered several positions until 1985 when he became Associate Professor of Automatic Control at Dipartimento di Automatica e Informatica. From 1997 to 2003 he was also Adjunct Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the College of Engineering of the University of Illinois at Chicago. From 1998 to 2005 he has been regularly Visiting Professor at the Asian Institute of Technology (Bangkok) conducting research and lecturing both in the Bangkok and in the Hanoi campuses. Since 2005 he is also researcher at Istituto Superiore Mario Boella.

Professor Belforte has been on several committees at Politecnico di Torino for the Faculty and for the Department. In 1991-93 he was elected in the Academic Senate.

The research activity of professor Belforte has been mainly focused on theoretic and applied problems related to modeling and identification of systems subject to bounded uncertainties. He also investigated classification and signal processing problems. In the early stage of his activity professor Belforte was involved in biomedical applications while in more recent years he worked on mechanical systems and on robotics and automation in agriculture as well as on the use of Satellite Positioning Systems. He is author or co-author of more than hundred papers published in international journals, books and conferences.

Throughout his career Professor Belforte has been involved in several research and cooperation projects acting also as principal investigator and coordinator for several of them. In particular, since 2002 he has been the general coordinator of three cooperation projects (Asia IN-MEM, JEAGAL, INTEGRA) funded by the European Commission in the ICT field (respectively on: mechatronics; Global Navigation Systems and Galileo; use of ICT in schools). He has been working with the SEAGAL project for the setup of the NAVIS Centre in Hanoi University of Science and Technology and in December 2011 he was appointed Co-Director of the Centre.
