NavSAS researchers both from ISMB and Politecnico di Torino visited the Italian Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in Rome from the 24th to the 26th of June.
INGV was meant to gather all scientific and technical institutions operating in Geophysics and Volcanology and to create a permanent scientific forum in the Earth Sciences. INGV cooperates with universities and other national public and private institutions, as well as with many research agencies worldwide.
NavSAS and INGV collaborate in many research projects and, in particular, in the last three years the collaboration focused on the ionosphere monitoring. The most relevant joint projects that were discussed in Rome were:
- ERICA - EquatoRial Ionosphere Characterization in Asia aims to monitor the ionosphere in the Southeast Asian region to characterize the local features of the Equatorial Ionospheric Anomaly (EIA) and of the Equatorial Ionospheric Trough (EIT) by means of an ad hoc campaign of geomagnetic and ionospheric measurements.
- DemoGrape. The improvement of the satellite high precision positioning to develop new scientific and technological applications in Antarctica is the objective of DemoGRAPE.
